Former Tottenham Hotspur graduate Jamie O’Hara has said that Spurs should take the opportunity to sign Daniel Sturridge this summer. The England international was released from Liverpool following the expiry of his contract last month and since then, he has been widely touted to make the move to Major League Soccer.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, O’Hara said that Spurs should consider the recruitment of Sturridge this summer, given the Englishman can provide the ideal partnership to Harry Kane upfront, should he remain fit for an extended period of time, he told: “Daniel Sturridge is on a free. He could fit in across the front three which Spurs play or a two, Sturridge and Harry Kane up front, if you are playing a diamond with two upfront. If you can get him fit, he’s a great signing surely on a free contract.”
Sturridge has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons and that has hampered his prospects of securing regular gametime. Nonetheless, he has the ability to make the difference on the playing field and it will be interesting to see whether Spurs are prepared to take the risk with the former Manchester City graduate.
The north London giants have made some transfer business for the summer with Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke joining the club and the former cost a club-record fee from Lyon. They are expected to continue with the spending during the forthcoming weeks with manager Mauricio Pochettino keen on rebuilding the team to potentially challenge for silverware.
Spurs came close to ending their decade-long trophy drought last season but they eventually failed at the final hurdle after Liverpool beat them to the Champions League crown. Still, there are plenty of positives to take from the campaign and Pochettino will be hoping that the team can make further progress during the 2019/2020 season.
