Ex-Crystal Palace ace insists Sturridge can still play in the Premier League

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison has said that Daniel Sturridge has the credentials to play in the Premier League despite his recent release from Liverpool. The England international has had his fair share of injuries over the past five years and that has ultimately urged the Reds to part ways with his services.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Morrison suggested that Sturridge may not be good enough for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City but he still has the technical ability to suit a team like Arsenal, he said: “I believe Daniel Sturridge is still good enough to play in the Premier League. He’s got great technical ability. Before all of his injuries, for me personally, I think he was the best English striker in the county.

“I thought he was better than Harry Kane. He’s the most naturally-gifted finisher I’ve seen. He’s the most natural finisher in the Liverpool team, but you just can’t get him in that team because of the work-rate of Mane, Firmino and Salah. He’s had a lot of injuries, but I think he’d be a great addition for most Premier League teams.”

Sturridge was initially expected to make way from the Reds during the 2018 summer transfer window but a strong performance during pre-season meant that Jurgen Klopp decided to keep hold of his services. However, that did not necessarily improve the gametime on the playing field and has eventually paved the way for his release from the club.

At the present point of time, there has been little speculation over the striker’s next club but Sturridge may have dropped a hint about a Major League Soccer move. The marksman has recently posted a picture of his New York visit on Instagram amid suggestions that he could sign for the New York Red Bulls. Wayne Rooney has been the most-recent Premier League star, who has made the switch to North America.
