Jordan Henderson admits he has overcome his Champions League pain

England international Jordan Henderson has stressed that he has overcome the disappointment of losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid and his focus is now entirely on the Three Lions’ pursuit of the World Cup. Gareth Southgate’s side begun their World Cup campaign with a late 2-1 win over Tunisia and they can now assure themselves of a knockout spot with a victory over Panama.

Speaking in a press conference, Henderson highlighted that he has forgotten about the events in Kiev last month and his sole aim is now on helping the Three Lions make a mark at the World Cup, he said: “The Champions League Final in Kiev was a difficult night – but football moves quickly. You have to move on and use the experience.
“I had a few days to reflect – but then my focus quickly changed to the World Cup, to England. I don’t see these players differently because I have trained with them for so long. That’s with England teams and I’ve also played with them and against them a lot in the Premier League. So I know how much quality there is in the group and that’s why we have got so much confidence.”

Based on Panama’s recent showing, England should claim a comfortable win against them but they still need to guard against complacency. The Three Lions have made it a trend to falter when the expectations are high on them and this is something which Southgate would want to avoid in the upcoming game.

Meanwhile, Henderson could get a new midfield partner for the Panama game with Dele Alli said to be struggling with a thigh injury. The Spurs man has taken no part in training in the lead-up to the weekend clash and Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been highlighted as the prime candidate to replace him at the heart of the midfield.

Daniel Sturridge responds to Jurgen Klopp bust-up claims

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has responded on social media shortly after reports emanated of his alleged bust-up with manager Jurgen Klopp. The England international spent the second half of the season on loan with West Bromwich Albion after he failed to command a regular starting role under Klopp.

A recent report suggested that Sturridge has been at loggerheads with the German after he failed to invite him for the club’s Champions League final against Real Madrid. However, Sturridge has supposedly refuted those claims by insisting that he has sent his good wishes to his head coach prior to the European final, he tweeted: “Spoke to the boss and (sporting director) Michael Edwards over the couple of days and wished them good luck for the final. Wished my team mates good luck after the semis and this week.”

Wished my team mates good luck after the semis and this week.”

Sturridge experienced his best campaign with Liverpool between 2013 and 2014 where he and Luis Suarez almost guided the club to Premier League’s success. Since then, the marksman has been hampered by multiple injuries and this has supposedly reduced his gametime to the extent that he is now being deemed surplus to requirements.

Under Klopp, Sturridge has rarely been used from the starting lineup over the past year and the striker now faces a battle to revive his Anfield career with Roberto Firmino, Dominic Solanke, and Danny Ings ahead of him in the pecking order. As things stand, the striker has just over 12 months left on his existing contract and he could possibly be offloaded during the summer with an extension not on the horizon.

The likes of West Ham United and Newcastle United have been associated with Sturridge in the past but anything other than a cut-price deal may deter their interest owing to the striker’s regular injury concerns. West Ham have already had to cope with a similar issue with Andy Carroll and they would surely not want to carry another forward just for the sake of signing one

Daniel Sturridge in talks over Besiktas switch

Daniel Sturridge could make a switch to Turkish giants Besiktas during the summer transfer window, a representative from the striker’s agency has said. The England international has suffered a string if injuries over the past couple of seasons and he is currently on the fringes of Liverpool first-team after an unsuccessful loan spell with west Bromwich Albion.

Recent reports have suggested that Sturridge’s encourage have held a couple of discussions with the Besiktas president and a Turkish representative of the player’s agency has confirmed that there is indeed an interest, he told Fotomac: “If the fans want him conditions occurs and Sturridge could play in Turkey”.

Sturridge’s recurrent niggles have witnessed him drop down the pecking order at Anfield and he is currently behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order. As such, he appears more likely to leave the club during the summer with his current contract due to expires in a year’s time.

The Englishman had been a crucial performer for the Reds during their title hunt back in the 2013/2014 season but the club have since gone through an excellent transition under Jurgen Klopp. As things stand, the Reds have done exceptionally good business in the transfer market with the arrival of Fabinho this summer and his presence in a midfield involving Naby Keita is likely to better their title prospects next term.

Liverpool have not won a single league title since the start of the Premier League era but next season could be an exciting one for the supporters with the team capable of ruffling the best in the business. Despite a fourth place finish last term, Klopp’s men had the better of Manchester City with three wins to one in all competitions and the pair appear likely to tussle it out for the 2018/19 title.
