Daniel Sturridge Not Entirely Happy at Liverpool, Claims Stuart Pearce

Stuart Pearce has claimed that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is struggling to show his potential at the club largely because he does not feel any love under the current management.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers for only £ 12 million from Chelsea in January 2012, Sturridge quickly became one of the top strikers in English football after scoring a numerous amount of goals. His best ever campaign was in the 2013-14 season when he scored 24 goals in just 33 appearances for the club. Just when it seemed that he would step on and become the next Luis Suarez or Fernando Torres, there has been a monumental dip in his performances.

Just when it seemed that he would step on and become the next Luis Suarez or Fernando Torres, there has been a monumental dip in his performances.

Sturridge has been injured more often than not in the last few years, and the arrival of manager Jurgen Klopp has made his position untenable in the last few months. He has certainly fallen out of favour under the German manager, who has largely used him as a substitute late in the matches. As a result, Sturridge has been able to feature only in 17 league matches with only five coming from the start.

It is widely expected that he would leave the club in the summer in order to sign for new pastures. Stuart Pearce has claimed that the striker has not been able to show his full potential on the pitch since manager Klopp does not shower him with enough confidence and love.

“He [Sturridge] would probably want to know what’s happening with him from his manager’s [Klopp] point of view. He’s been in and out through injury. He’s been in and out through form. You know he can score goals.I think he’s the type of lad who needs to be loved a little bit and I’m not sure he’s feeling the love at the moment at Liverpool and his future will be interesting come the summer,” said Pearce.

Heskey Does Not Understand Reasons for Sturridge’s No-Show

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes that the club already possess one of the best forwards in the division – Daniel Sturridge.

Hence, he is lost for words when learning about Liverpool trying to sign a new forward in the summer transfer window. However, a spate of injury problems coupled with falling out with manager Jurgen Klopp has seen him relegated to the bench.

The 27-year-old has made just five starts Premier League at a time when he should be playing at the peak of his career. He has managed to score only two goals and create one assist in the 16 league appearances, with majority of them coming on as a late substitute. His lack of impact has led to Klopp facing little questions about his presence in the first team.

The widespread consensus is that Liverpool would sell him for around £20 million and invest the figure in a new striker who will be capable of being available more often than not. He has missed 10 games for Liverpool to various injuries this season, while last season the figure was at 17 matches.

“I’ve been hearing Liverpool fans saying “why don’t you sign that forward or that one?” They don’t need to because the club has one of the most fluent forward lines in the Premier League. They’ve got Coutinho, Firmino, Mane and Sturridge. What Sturridge has done for the club in the short time he has appeared makes me think he can become a big legend there,” said Heskey.
