Liverpool last win of Title was in 2004-2005

It was back during the season of 2004-05 when Liverpool managed to win their last Champions League title as the Premier League club overcame Ac.Milan in a dramatic match and penalty session. It’s been over 9 years since Liverpool has managed to lift the European trophy and it doesn’t seem like it will be happening anytime soon as Liverpool could not even manage to progress past the group stages of this season.

Liverpool was pitted in Group B of the Champions League as they had to play against Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets. The Premier League club was expected to snatch the 2nd spot and advance along with Real Madrid but it didn’t happen as Liverpool had to settle with the 3rd position after having lost against Basel and Real Madrid as well as only managing to draw when facing off with Ludogorets and Basel in their 2nd leg.

Daniel Sturridge sustained a thigh injury which has kept him out of action for over 4 months but the 25 year old forward is now fully recovered as he managed to perform in Liverpool’s Premier League match against Burnley where the team of Brendan Rodgers claimed a 2-0 triumph. Sturridge scored a goal in this game and the Irish coach believes that once Sturridge returns to his goal-scoring form, it will increase the chances of the team of competing in the European competition.

“Daniel is excited by the new system. He is not fully fit yet, but put a fully-fit Daniel Sturridge into that system and it lights it up again.Come the end of this week Daniel will then be on a great run and able to play every game and be able to train.’’ Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers said.

The return of Daniel Sturridge will surely help out Liverpool in their journey of securing a Champions League spot in the Premier League but they will need a lot more aid if they want to make a serious charge for the European title and have any hope of winning the silverware that the English club won back in 2005.
